Roofing systems that hold up.
Industrial and institutional roofing: system details, specifications, tapered takeoffs and warranted assemblies — full follow thru and chain of custody.

Build your own tools.
How a non-technical rep built tools for his own process — on a machine in his own building, with open-source software — and how you can build yours.
The process side →
01 · Who this is
I came to this from a non-technical background.
I sell commercial roofing systems. I am not a programmer, an engineer, or a developer — and being straightforward about that is the point, because here is what I have been able to build anyway.
These automation tools are adequate for my process, they're simple and effective and live on a machine that I built from readily available consumer grade components - and I learned entirely from being curious, asking endless questions and admitting when something was confusing. And you can learn how to do this too!
Nobody can build exactly what you would build, because what you would build carries your own judgement about your own field — For most of the history of software you could either learn to engineer or buy a someone else's opinion of your work. Both throw your own perspective away.
That is the constraint that is now lifted — and small firms are positioned best to benefit from it.
02 · What it produces
A real detail, for a real job.

Induction welded PVC system on steel deck · cold-weather install · 30-year system
This is a cold-weather induction weld assembly on steel deck — vapour barrier, two staggered layers of coated-glass polyiso, induction-welded membrane, and the flashing welded to the counterflash where a lesser detail would rely on sealant.
It is drawn from a data file, not by hand. Change the insulation thickness in the data and the sheet redraws, with the labels and the published R-value following along. A checker refuses the sheet if a leader crosses another, if a label runs off the page, or if it asserts a material the project never specified.
The checker has been watched refusing each of those on purpose. A test that cannot fail is decoration.
03 · What it took
Seven steps. One of them is hard.
Everything runs on a machine in my own building. Nothing about a client's project leaves it. That is not a privacy feature bolted on afterwards — it is the reason the whole thing is arranged this way, and it is the first question every architect and owner asks.
Steps one through four and step six are well documented by people better at it than me, and I will point you straight at them. Step five is the one with no tutorial, because it is specific to your machine, your network and you.
1. Get a machine.
Ordinary hardware. This is not a data-centre project.
2. Build it.
Physically. It is a weekend and a screwdriver. It took me two weeks, but I believe in you!
3. Install an open-source OS.
You own the machine. You should own what runs on it. This part takes a solid weekend.
4. Load your agentic stack.
Small models, running locally, that do not sleep.
5. Wire it for security and portability — this is the hard part.
Zero trust, on your own network, still usable from the road. This is where people stop, and it is what we teach.
6. Manage your process with open-source and free tools.
You almost certainly need less software than you have been sold.
7. Build your own products.
The destination. Yours, on your machine, in your words.
04 · What we would rather you did
We would rather teach you than sell you.
If you want a product built, we will build it. But we genuinely believe the value is in learning to do it yourself — we will help you build your own process… AND THEN YOU BUILD ANYTHING.
Automate everything that can be precisely defined, and keep what is left: curiosity, creativity, and community building. That is not a slogan here. It is the reason the automation exists, and the community work is the part we protect.

Short briefings for Industry Professionals. Useful on their own; better as a conversation.
Built for you
If you want the outcome over the build, we will build it. And we highly encourage self builds.
05 · Roofing
Specifications that hold up.
Industrial and institutional roofing for contractors, roofing and waterproofing consultants, and the architects who carry the spec. Single-ply systems, cold-weather scheduling, tapered design, warranted assemblies.
Building science over marketing. Every product claim on a MISC drawing is traceable to the manufacturer's published data, and where a number governs the schedule — the temperature the flashing adhesive stops working at, say — it is called out as the number that governs rather than buried in a table.
— Detail drawings autonomously generated from project data - reviewed before shipped.
— Tapered and metal takeoffs, estimating and production support
— Warranty and system-assembly guidance
