MISC — Material Industrial Sales & Consulting — is an independent manufacturer's representation firm for commercial roofing and waterproofing. MISC · The process side
Build your own tools.
I sell roofing systems. I am not a programmer, an engineer, or a developer — here is what I have been able to build anyway.
These automation tools are adequate for my process, they're simple and effective and live on a machine that I built from readily available consumer grade components - and I learned entirely from being curious, asking endless questions and admitting when something was confusing. And you can learn how to do this too!
Nobody can build exactly what you would build, because what you would build carries your own judgement about your own field — For most of the history of software you could either learn to engineer or buy someone else's opinion of your work. Both throw your own perspective away.
That is the constraint that is now lifted — and small firms are positioned best to benefit from it. Take a closer look at the build process HERE
01 · What it took
Seven steps. One of them is hard.
Everything runs on a machine in my own building. Nothing about a client's project leaves it. That is not a privacy feature bolted on afterwards — it is the reason the whole thing is arranged this way, and it is the first question every architect and owner asks.
Steps one through four and step six are well documented by people better at it than me, and I will point you straight at them. Step five is the one with no tutorial, because it is specific to your machine, your network and you.
1. Get a machine.
Ordinary hardware. This is not a data-centre project.
2. Build it.
Physically. It is a weekend and a screwdriver.
3. Install an open-source OS.
You own the machine. You should own what runs on it.
4. Load your agentic stack.
Small models, running locally, that do not sleep.
5. Wire it for security and portability — this is the hard part.
Zero trust, on your own network, still usable from the road. This is where people stop, and it is what we teach.
6. Manage your process with open-source and free tools.
You almost certainly need less software than you have been sold.
7. Build your own products.
The destination. Yours, on your machine, in your words.
02 · What we would rather you did
We would rather teach you than sell you.
If you want a product built, we will build it. But we genuinely believe the value is in learning to do it yourself — we will help you build your own process... AND THEN YOU BUILD ANYTHING.
Automate everything that can be precisely defined, and keep what is left: curiosity, creativity, and community building. That is not a slogan here. It is the reason the automation exists, and the community work is the part we protect.

Sessions on the wiring, the order and the troubleshooting — the parts with no tutorial.
Primers
Short briefings for Industry Professionals. Useful on their own; better as a conversation.
Built for you
If you want the outcome over the build, we will build it. And we highly encourage self builds.
